My sneaky gardening trick protects your plants from squirrels and birds this summer

Sep 08, 2023

A WOMAN has revealed her simple hack to keeping pests out of her garden in the summer.

The TikTok creator has more than 25,000 followers on the app who find her gardening tips helpful.

Jennifer (@5mingardener) recently shared a video showing her followers a trick to keep birds and squirrels from messing with the tomatoes in her garden.

In the clip, she noted that one of her tricks "is going to have you bringing out your Christmas decorations."

Showing a screenshot of an item on Amazon, Jennifer explained that you're going to want little sheer bags with drawstrings.

"You can get 100 of them for like $8 and they'll cover your berries," she said.

The bags she showed in her video are four inches by six inches in size and made by a brand named Volcanic priced at $7.91.

Jennifer said she likes to pick the berries when they're still a little green, "when they're just getting ready to start turning ripe.

While showing the berries, screen text displayed over the clip clarified: "Pick when they start to ripen but not all the way."

"This way, I get them before anything thinks that they're delicious," she stated.

"They come inside, they ripen and they're great."

The sneaky part comes in when you bring out your red Christmas ornaments to confuse the pests.

"Last but not least, let's fool them with Christmas decorations," Jennifer advised.

"This way, they think that anything that's red and hanging on these vines is no good."

The video featuring the garden hack has been viewed more than 5,000 times.

"That's smart," a user commented.

"That last one is brilliant," someone added with a laughing emoji.

"I just want them to stop pooping on my plants lol," another person chimed in.

Jennifer replied laughing at their admission.
