This Adorable Pink Lenox Christmas Ornament is Half-Off | Apartment Therapy

Two things about me: I love decorating my small apartment for Christmas, and I didn’t grow up with a real Christmas tree. When I was growing up in Texas, my mom always said that getting a real Christmas tree was a waste — that they died way too quick that far south of the Northeast (I think she just didn’t want to clean up the pine needles). In any case, although our tree may have been fake, my mom did a big job of decorating for Christmas, and we even had two trees. One was a classic green fake tree, bedecked with a vintage tree skirt from my Tante Hedwig and a classic tree-topper, that we put all of our family heirloom ornaments on (collected from when my parents were kids, to the homemade ones my brother and I made in pre-school and beyond). The second tree was an iconic, mini, vintage-inspired white Christmas tree covered with a passed-down mid-century modern star-shaped topper with only modern, store-bought ornaments. That tree was for gifts we gave family and friends, not each other. All of this is to say that as soon as I moved into a nice-enough apartment in Brooklyn, I took it upon myself to start buying a real Christmas tree. It was an experience I never had when I was growing up and one I was deeply excited about. The trees I buy are much smaller than our big green fake Christmas tree, though — and I have to admit I don’t have nearly the same amount of ornaments that my parents have on their tree.

In exchange, I’ve been very intentional about the ornaments I buy — usually, we buy one on every vacation, and besides four or five big red glittery balls, we probably only have 10 ornaments total. I have limited real estate on my tree, after all, and I want to have an ornament collection just like my parents do: sentimental, half-homemade, and full of fun meaning. Which is why I’m about to buy an adorable pink Christmas-tree shaped ornament from Lenox. It reminds me so much of that vintage-inspired, fake-white tree we had growing up, with the big star on top. And the real kicker is that it’s currently 50% off.

While even $30 (the ornament is currently on sale for $29.95, and is normally $60) is a lot to spend on an ornament, given that I only buy one or two a year — and that my tree skirt is that vintage one from my Tante, and my tree topper is from my parents — I’m focused on building a collection I can pass down to my nieces and nephews or children if I have them one day.Plus, this ornament is really too cute. It actually lights up, bringing another bright spot to the tree. I can’t wait to get my hands on it — and reminisce about the Christmas memories of my childhood.
