11 Bit Studios partners with Skybound on Frostpunk 2 Special Edition | VentureBeat

Oct 14, 2024

11 Bit Studios, the developer of Frostpunk 2, announced today it is partnering with Skybound Games to create the Special Edition of the upcoming strategy title. This edition of the game comes with several bonus items, including a novella and digital artbook. The Special Edition launches with the game itself on September 20, and it’s currently available for pre-order from Skybound’s online store for $99.99.

The Special Edition does not come with a physical copy of the game for PC, but rather a Steam key for the game and its 3 post-release DLCs. In terms of physical items, however, the Special Edition’s showpiece is a multilayered shadow box with LED lights depicting the goggled character on the game’s title page. It also contains a keychain, two faction patches, postcards and stickers in an individually numbered box.

Ian Howe, managing partner at Skybound, said in a statement, “I’ve been a Frostpunk player, a Captain, since the first game’s release in 2018. So when the opportunity to work with 11 bit studios for Frostpunk 2 came about, I very enthusiastically rallied the Skybound Games team to start visualizing what an exceptional physical edition could look like. Where we landed is a carefully curated PC edition with the hope of providing not just an immersive experience, extending the frostlands beyond the screen, but something fans can treasure for years to come.”

11 Bit originally set the release date for Frostpunk 2 earlier this year but delayed the title after the early access beta period. According to the developers’ post on the game’s Steam page, they wanted to improve the game with feedback received during this period: “We know this is not the news you wanted to hear. However, we believe these additional features are something you deserve to see in-game on day one, not in a patch added after the release.”
